GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - A judge has declared a mistrial in the case of a North Carolina man accused of killing a woman and dumping her body in South Carolina.
Superior Court Judge Beverly Beal declared the mistrial Monday in the case of Danny Hembree, accused of murder in the death of 30-year-old Randi Saldana. Prosecutors say Hembree strangled Saldana, stored her body in the basement of his mother's home and later dumped the body and set it on fire to cover up evidence.
Saldana's burned body was found alongside a York County, S.C., road in November 2009.
Beal declared the mistrial after Hembree testified that a letter sent to the attorneys said he had a sexual relationship with a prosecutor.
Saldana's sister yelled obscenities at Hembree. Deputies removed the family from the courtroom.
