WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For the second time in a week Wilmington Police say they’ve taken a load of heroin off the streets. Police arrested eight people from New Jersey after uncovering a large heroin trafficking ring here in the Port City.

James Thomas, Tykeem Thomas, Steven Poole, Reginald Willis, Leah Porter, Ashley Tate, Destiny Decosta and Aalivah Marable are in jail after police found them with more than 2,900 bags of heroin with a street value of about $60,000.

“We have other sources of heroin coming into the region that we are actively working right now, so this is only one piece,” Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous said. “To think that New Jersey and their residents can come down here and wreak havoc on us, well we’re going to wreak havoc on them, and we’ve already started.”

Evangelous says this is just a drop in the bucket in terms of getting heroin off the streets, but it’s a start.

New Jersey, yea Garden State, home of crime, pollution and drugs. Hey, you Yankees need to stay North of the Mason Dixon Line. We do not need your crime, drugs or you. Guess what, the NC Prison system serves grits and you will have a chance to eat some soon. You Yankees are going to burn up in our hot summers, have fun!

  • Guest2769 says:

Having fun with your sister. Just like you hillbilly.

  • Justin America says:

Aaahh, yes. Yankee is a Dutch term for English speaking persons seeking freedom to worship God. I take it you would not include yourself in these 2 groups. Around the World however, most see all Americans (and sometimes whites in general) as Yankees. Fortunately for you, here in the south, there is no crime and separately there are no drugs except those that come from N.J.. have fun. BTW, are you certain that the NC Prison system serves grits? It may be a while since you were last released.

  • JERSEY says:

First off yankees are from NEW YORK moron. And second New jersey isnt bringing drugs to north carolina. People from North carolina are coming to new jersey, buying drugs for cheap, and going back down to their communities and selling it for triple the price. Wilmington has a market for heroin and other drugs and as long as theres a demand for it, somebody is gonna supply it. Think before you start writing stuff you have no idea about.

  • Damn Yankee (I live here now) says:

You sound really hateful for a person that calls themself “Truthseeker” LOL Hateful or high. Which is it Truthseeker?

  • Guest4u says:

I’m glad to see criminals arrested no matter where they are from, but that is an odd statement to make about NJ. Several WPD officers are from NJ along with a big chunk of the Wilmington tax base. I think he could have worded that a bit better.

What a system. The WPD takes em off the street, and the judges put em right back. In time to get their welfare checks. I believe we should give the death penalty to drug dealers.

  • stupid says:

see subject line and add this. you are mean and i dont like you. you seem to ask leniency to your relative who was sucked into this life yet you give none to others whom have a much different life than you. i think that you are stupid.

“To think that New Jersey and their residents can come down here and wreak havoc on us, well we’re going to wreak havoc on them, and we’ve already started.”

Did New Jersey and their residents send some authorized representatives to wreak havoc on Wilmington?

That is a fairly ridiculous and contentious statement.

  • New Jerseys Defense says:

No we do not send our residents to disrupt your way of life. Then on the other hand don’t think that No. carolina natives are not guilty of the same things. It takes all kinds to make a world , and some of the residents in the great State of No. Carolina are no different, and it is a known fact. Those of us on the other side of the Mason Dixon line are far from perfect equally as much as in No. Carolina. Prostitution, and drugs have been around for decades, so please stop short of making the attempt to single, N.J.out. New Jersey is still a great state to live in and WORK legally. In fact you may have to do some cleaning in your our family,or backyard. Every one of us knows someone battling with some form of addition. or illegal solicitaion.

STOP sending your trash down here. We have enough druggies in the area without you coming down here and adding to it. Just glad they got caught – what a bunch of losers. Faces only a mother can love. The story on the news said they had a one year old in the car. Sure hope someone takes that baby away from them and they never get it back. Bad enough they are down here spreading the trash around – another thing to put a child in such danger. They are parasites on society and should be put in a cell and never let out.

  • illwill says:

No one made you or your son buy drugs from them, you had a choice like we all do so you’re actually the one who’s the slimeball for choosing drugs over your family. Maybe you should be the on locked away. Don’t blame others for the choices you choose to make

I was the Mother of Two Wonderful Sons, now one is dead due to a Heroin Addiction. He was clean for two years and had back surgery two weeks before his death. He died three months ago. I Thank these fine young Men and Women for their service to take drugs off of the street. The people who sale drugs don’t care about the families they cause havok upon. They don’t realize not only are they killing the addict, they are also destroying families.Drug Addiction is a life long battle for the entire family. My Son was introduced to Drug Court and it is a Wonderful Program…and the people who run it should be Praised for the many lives they have saved…And the fine men and women who work in Drug Enforcement should be praised also. They put their lives on the line to get these Drug Dealers(slime Balls) off of the street. It is and ongoing War that will never be won, but it’s worth the fight! My Thanks to those who are putting up the fight to get these slugs off of the street. Continue your Fight and many Thanks from a Mother who lost the fight. I will not give up hope that every Drug Dealer will be put away. It’s to late for my Son but I Pray that others can be saved. My Prayers go out to all the Addicts and their Families. Life can be a wonderful thing when you’re sobber.
