Teen sentenced to life in prison for robbery killing

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) -- A teenager has been sentenced to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of killing a Florence pawn shop employee during a robbery.

The Morning News of Florence reports jurors took just over two hours Wednesday to find 18-year-old Tavario Brunson guilty of murder.

Authorities say Brunson killed 33-year-old Stephen Deaver and wounded a second employee at Rick's Pawn Shop in April 2011.

Prosecutors say Brunson swept jewelry and other items into a trash bag, but it was so full that it burst as he tried to get away.

Brunson confessed to police, saying he robbed the pawn shop because his family needed money. He said he shot Deaver because it looked like he might be reaching for something.
