WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) -- The Wednesday night sports segment featured some of the region’s high school seniors signing letters of intent to play collegiate sports on National Signing Day. We also made our way to the diamond to check out the UNCW baseball team on the road versus Charleston Southern. We even featured high school boys tennis action between New Hanover and Hoggard. In college basketball news, NC State will be losing two members from this year’s Sweet 16 squad.

IN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS LACROSSE ACTION, ASHLEY DEFEATED TOPSAIL 21-1 ON WEDNESDAY. JOHANNA WHITE LED ASHLEY WITH 4 GOALS AND 2 ASSISTS. HANNAH WEST HAD 7 SAVES IN GOAL FOR THE SCREAMIN' EAGLES.

THE WIN GAVE SOUTH COLUMBUS THE JIGGS POWERS MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT TITLE.

SOFTBALL TOPSAIL 12 - RICHMOND COUNTY 0
THE WIN GAVE TOPSAIL THE BEACH DIAMOND INVITATIONAL TITLE, WHICH WAS HELD AT WEST BRUNSWICK HIGH SCHOOL. SUMMER DARNELL WAS THE WINNING PITCHER FOR THE PIRATES. THE TOPSAIL SOFTBALL TEAM HAS OUTSCORED THEIR OPPONENTS 59-0 IN THEIR LAST 4 GAMES.
SOFTBALL TRASK 5 - VICTOR, NY 4

IN COLLEGE BASEBALL, UNCW WENT ON THE ROAD AND BEAT CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 10-4 ON WEDNESDAY. THE SEAHAWKS DROVE IN 6 RUNS IN THE THIRD INNING. MICHAEL BASS COLLECTED 3 HITS TO LEAD ALL UNCW BATTERS. UNCW IMPROVED ITS RECORD TO 18-15 OVERALL. THE SEAHAWKS HOST HOFSTRA THIS WEEKEND IN A THREE-GAME SERIES STARTING ON FRIDAY AT 6:30PM.

IN NBA ACTION THE NEW YORK KNICKS DEFEATED THE MILWAUKEE BUCKS 111-107 ON WEDNESDAY. THE WIN HELPS THE KNICKS OPEN UP A 2-GAME LEAD FOR THE EIGHTH SEED IN THE EASTERN CONFERENCE.

THE UNCW MEN'S TENNIS TEAM WILL HOST EAST CAROLINA IN THE BIRD CAGE ON THURSDAY AT 3PM.

THE UNCW WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM WILL HOST UNC GREENSBORO ON FRIDAY AT 2:30PM.
