WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — About 600 folks got down and dirty this weekend for the first ever Step Up for Soldiers Combat Mud Run.

Some of WWAY’s own took on the grueling course, including reporters Marissa Jasek and Cliff Pyron. It was a 5K like no other set up at the National Guard Armory. Obstacles included four, six and eight-foot walls, a mud crawl, swamp run and bungee hallway. Step Up for Soldiers said the event was a huge success, and they look forward to next year’s run, and WWAY team members agree.

“Oh, yeah, sign me up. Five miles next time. It’s all good. I really liked the tunnel. It reminded me of ‘Shawshank Redemption.’ I was just running through. It was great,” WWAY Promotions Manager Ashley Hill said. “The mud was definitely a part of this event. It definitely was.”

I’m so thrilled that some WWAY faces were involved with this event. It shows what great character the Reporters have, and that they aren’t afraid to get a little dirty for a good cause. Also, it’s even more impressive to hear from people behind the scenes at WWAY. It sounds like your promotions manager has a fantastic wit. She needs her own segment on the news.
