FOREST CITY, N.C. (AP) — Facebook is updating the status of its data center in Rutherford County.
Officials from the social networking website joined lawmakers and other North Carolina officials Thursday in the grand opening of its Forest City data center.
Building 1 of Forest City’s Facebook project broke ground in November 2010 and has been completed. Building 2 began last fall and is expected to be finished later this year.
Hundreds of thousands of servers in the facility will help connect Facebook’s more than 845 million users around the world.
Facebook said in a statement that it has distributed grant money to local non-profits, and it has also helped Isothermal Community College develop its Data Center Institute training curriculum.
