TABOR CITY, NC (WWAY) -- Several men are accused of shooting into a rental car with two toddlers inside. Tabor city police say they are still trying to figure out just what happened this weekend.
Police say five men shot into a car with four people inside, including two 18-month-olds. According to the police report, Lilly Stephens told police she and DeAngelo Lewis were driving past 303 west sixth street on Sunday, when a group of men started approaching the car.
Lewis told her to speed up.
As they drove by the group, Stephens says the men stepped into the street and started shooting.
The rear window was shot out.
When we went by 303 West Sixth Street in Tabor City, residents say the shooting did not happen there. When we told them that it was listed on the police report as being the place of the shooting, they said the police were lying and told us to quickly get off the property.
The police report says officers collected twelve 9mm shell casings from the driveway and in the road in front of the house.
Four men, Terrell Billings, Jimmy Billings, Xavier Hemingway, and David Hemingway were arrested and charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle. They have all been released under individual secured bonds of $15,000 each.
A fifth man, Wayne Billings, was named in the police report, but he has not been arrested.
The car Stephens was driving was a rental car. Both the front and rear windshields have been replaced. No one inside the car was hurt during the shooting.
