Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds of low-income residents will have the opportunity to see a dentist for free this weekend in downtown Wilmington.
This Friday and Saturday, Cape Fear Community College is hosting the North Carolina Mission of Mercy dental clinic at the Schwartz center.
Services include fillings, cleanings and a limited number of front-tooth partial dentures. Dentists from across the state, as well as CFCC students, will be helping out at the event.
“They get right in there. They see probably like ten to fifteen patients a day so it’s a great clinical experience for them and to see the need that is out there is pretty overwhelming, how many people you’ll have hours before they open to actually get served,” said Melissa Peterson, a clinical dental hygiene instructor.
The free dental clinic runs from 6:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday and from 6:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Patients must meet certain federal poverty index criteria.
