Wilmington, NC (WWAY) – The Wednesday night sports segment featured baseball and softball action from UNCW. The Seahawk baseball team used a strong performance from their bullpen to beat Elon 7-5. UNCW pitcher Kelly Secrest tied a school record with 12 strikeouts in relief. The UNCW softball team dropped both games of their double header with Coastal Carolina. Freshman pitcher Casey Rowland also set a program single-game record with 12 strikeouts. On top of that, we caught up with former New Hanover football player George Bryan to gage his chances of being selected in this weekend’s NFL Draft.

THE NC STATE JUNIOR OLYMPIC BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP WILL BE HELD ON APRIL 28TH IN WILMINGTON. BOXING ACTION WILL BE HELD AT THE NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY STARTING AT 6PM.

IN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER, WHITEVILLE DEFEATED EAST BLADEN 7-1 ON WEDNESDAY. WHITEVILLE GIRLS SOCCER IS RANKED NUMBER 2 IN THE STATE AT THE 2A LEVEL. WHITEVILLE IS NOW 17-0-2 OVERALL.

IN HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL ACTION, ASHLEY BEAT NEW HANOVER 3-1 ON WEDNESDAY. CRYSTAL HARRELL WAS THE WINNING PITCHER FOR THE SCREAMIN' EAGLES. ASHLEY SOFTBALL IS NOW 14-4 OVERALL AND 6-1 IN LEAGUE PLAY.

IN COLLEGE BASEBALL, NORTH CAROLINA NIPPED EAST CAROLINA 1-0 ON WEDNESDAY.

IN COLLEGE BASEBALL, NC STATE DEFEATED UNC CHARLOTTE 6-3 ON WEDNESDAY.

THE UNCW BASEBALL TEAM DEFEATED ELON 7-5 AT HOME ON WEDNESDAY. UNCW PITCHER KELLY SECREST TIED THE SCHOOL RECORD FOR SINGLE-GAME STRIKEOUTS BY A RELIEVER WITH 12. THE SEAHAWKS ARE NOW 25-16 OVERALL.

THE UNCW SOFTBALL TEAM GOT SWEPT BY COASTAL CAROLINA 10-0 AND 1-0 IN WEDNESDAY’S DOUBLEHEADER. SEAHAWK PITCHER CASEY ROWLAND MATCHED THE PROGRAM'S SINGLE GAME RECORD FOR STRIKEOUTS WITH 12. THE SEAHAWKS DROPPED TO 8-40 ON THE YEAR.

THE CHARLOTTE BOBCATS MUST BEAT THE KNICKS ON THURSDAY TO AVOID THE WORST SINGLE-SEASON WIN PERCENTAGE IN NBA HISTORY.
