SUNSET BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A 911 call from the Monday morning shooting in Sunset Beach should help shed some light on what happened. The ex-husband of the Brunswick County woman who was shot in her home describes the scene to a 911 dispatcher.
Since we reported the death of 28-year-old Megan Tysinger, there have been many questions and outrage about the circumstances surrounding her death. In the 911 call, her ex-husband, Brandon Tysinger, who is clearly shocked and distraught, says the two shots he heard were both fired by Megan.
“(Megan) shot herself,” Brandon Tysinger said repeatedly. “I walked in the house. I heard two loud shots.”
Tysinger says he was at the home on Sea Lane to drop off their daughter.
“I was outside,” he told the dispatcher. “She told me to watch (my daughter) outside on the scooter. I ran in, saw her laying on the floor. I took (my daughter) out of the house because she followed me in.”
The dispatcher then asks if Megan is gone. “She’s gone,” he said. “It’s right through the center of her chest.”
A spokesman for the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday the case is still considered a death investigation and that no foul play was involved. According to StarNews, a neighbor says she heard the couple arguing that morning. A little while later she says Tysinger ran over and said his ex-wife had shot herself.
The sheriff’s office says that right now, they are unsure about how many shots were fired. Neighbors and family members say Megan was a long-time Brunswick County EMS worker and had only moved to Sunset Beach three weeks ago.
