WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Law enforcement agencies from across the region were honored in Wilmington Wednesday night. Barb Lynch and “Justice in Motion” hosted their annual law enforcement appreciation dinner.

Special honors were given to officers and deputies who are helping keep drunk drivers off the street.

Lieutenant Freddy Johnson, with North Carolina Highway Patrol, says it’s events like this that make officers feel appreciated for their hard work.

“Sometimes it’s easy for a law enforcement officer to think that folks don’t care and it’s events like this, partnerships like this tonight and all the agencies that are here that help remind these officers that this fight that they do to get drunks off our highways is very important,” Lieutenant Johnson said.

Officers were recognized for the number of DUI arrests they’ve made and their continued efforts to combat drunk driving.

When a driver who is drunk hits someone in your family and seriously hurts or kills them then you will understand why it is so important to get the DUI drivers off the road. You really are simple minded.

Why were they honored for DUI arrests? They should have been arresting REAL criminals. That is something to be honored for

Have you driven the Wilmington roads lately? Personally…I would like to see more “license checks” around town. Then their stats will go up even more no doubt.
