WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Dentistry is a service many of us take for granted but for those in need with low income their teeth may have to wait. This Friday and Saturday the North Carolina Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic is an answer to their prayers.
A dozen or so people were camped out at the Schwartz Center for a free dental clinic some like Sam Martin traveled far.
“How many miles? 229. We are going to be here all night, that’s why we came. The man said be here early if you want to get service so we're here.”
Sam and his wife don't mind the travel or the wait, they have benefited from the clinics before and Sam says now he knows what to expect.
“When I got there I didn't have an idea there would be as many people, so when we heard about it we went the night before an spent the night and they just started coming in.”
More than three hundred and fifty people came to the last clinic Sam attended, this one should be bigger. Dentistry is expensive and dear to those who need it and for those who cannot afford this service.
Services include fillings, extractions, cleaning and some partial dentures. Local and area dentists will use the latest equipment for digital X ray and sterilization.
The Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic has enough equipment to set up an 80 chair dental clinic. The service is this Friday from 6AM to 4PM and Saturday from 6AM to 3 PM at the CFCC Schwartz Center and all services are free.
