WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Healthy kids are happy kids, and we’ve got hundreds of them now thanks to Healthy Kids Day.
Healthy Kids Day is a national effort by the YMCA to get kids and their parents moving together. Our Wilmington chapter and the City teamed up for our local event at Empie Park. Kids danced, played tennis, croquet, painted, and so much more. Organizers say it doesn’t matter what moves you as long as you’re moving and having fun. The healthy kids encourage others to get up and get outside.
“If you’re not active, then you just stay on the couch all day and not be able to play anything,” 11-year-old Kelly Baker said. “I just like getting outside and playing.”
“Having fun while doing it is what will help them get off the couch to come play,” YMCA Operations Director Shannon Berg said. “And if their family can be a part of that, then it’s even more important so that they are together.”
Berg said the day is about families learning to live better together.
The Wilmington Tigers were also there to encourage kids to play and stay healthy so they can achieve their dreams.
