WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — With the primary election just a little more than a week away, campaigns are heating up. The two candidates battling for a chance to represent our area in the US House of Representatives have different opinions on many issues, including immigration law.

William Gheen is the president of Americans for Legal Immigration and a big supporter of Ilario Pantano. Gheen visited Wilmington this weekend to rally for Pantano. He believes the voting districts have been drawn in candidate David Rouzer’s favor. But he feels that if enough GOP voters know Pantano’s stance against illegal immigration, votes could change in Pantano’s favor.

“[Illegal immigration] is costing Americans and legal immigrants jobs. It’s depreciating wages. It’s a theft of taxpayer resources. Over $100,000,000,000 per year of federal dollars alone are being drained by illegal immigration,” Gheen said. “Then we have some of the criminal elements. Not all illegal aliens are murderers or hardened criminals, but we do have drunk driving crashes and other crimes caused by illegal immigration.”

Coming up on WWAY NewsChannel 3 Monday evening, we’ll hear from candidate David Rouzer about his feelings on immigration law and reform.

We want to know how much weight you put on a candidate’s stance on immigration law when casting your vote. Let us know by voting in our online poll, and we’ll announce the results on WWAY NewsChannel 3 Sunday night at 11.

Illegal immigration affects us negatively on many levels. Illegals are far beyond just working on farms and have displaced citizens in the work force. It is a slap in the face to anyone coming here through the proper channels and with respect. Illegals must go. I’m with Pantano and Gheen on this one!

Illegal immigrants aren’t stealing jobs from American citizens, Union busting republicans are. The GOP loves illegal immigrants, they just won’t say so publicly. They like paying sweat shop wages… they just want Americans to be willing to work for sweat shop wages.

In this day and age it is absolutely ridiculous to imagine that America has any shortage of willing and competent citizen labor available to do any job. And, the only thing that will save America is to get Americans back to work. This is not rocket science! Gheen and Pantano are right, and Rouzer is wrong on this one.

Wow, really? Not stealing American jobs, huh? There’s an illegal working at my bank (he as much as told me so), so how is that a job that an American won’t do? I bet any number of Americans would be glad and thankful to have that job!! And no unions at the bank!!

Illegals are breaking the bank here in NC. Pantano has talked about this for years. I don’t think Rouzer has been as vocal and he won’t get my vote May 8.

I am old enough to remember learning responsibility and buying my first stereo with the money I made de-tasseling corn when I was 14. These are the jobs that taught youth about hard work, pride in their job, pride of working for something they want and the consequences of dropping out of school. Today our children are not learning this lesson because the jobs are done by illegals. Illegal aliens are destroying much more than just our jobs. They are devaluing wages and they are eliminating the opportunity for our youth to learn about what it takes to succeed.

Both parties do nothing about illegal immigration because of their own parochial interests.

Democrats couple unfettered immigration with their opposition to voter ID because they WANT eleven million illegal immigrants voting for their give-away politics. Even the honest ones who support voter ID want to coddle illegal immigrants in the hope that they stay and become citizens who vote for Democrats.

Republicans do nothing because they are addicted to the cheap labor these people provide. Everyone gripes and complains about them clogging the ERs and choking Social Services, but we are strangely silent about the beach house selling for $30k less because illegal aliens did the roofing and drywall.

Cries to kick every single one of them out are ridiculous. It’s logistically impossible from a law enforcement standpoint and it would basically destroy the agricultural production of this nation. Until people named O’Brien, D’Angelo, Rabinowitz or Washington are ready to work ten to twelve hours picking squash or sorting turkeys for minimum wage, you had better plan of Rodriguez and Bustillo doing it.

Want to solve illegal immigration? First step, have the Departments of Labor and Agriculture figure out how many we NEED to tend to agricultural and landscaping duties that Americans WON’T perform.

Second, seal the border and use the number arrived at in the first step as a targeted goal. Give preference to those already here. They apply, we give out three year work permits limited to the number we attained in that first step. They are eligible for one and only one three year renewal. After the permit and renewal, it will be six years and if they’re not a citizen by then, they leave permanently. No more permits.

Third step, anyone without a permit is arrested and deported immediately The number will be greatly reduced and likely manageable by that point. No consideration of how long they’ve been here of the number of anchor babies they produced. Adios!

The problem isn’t migrant workers from Mexico or the rest of Central America. The problem is runaway, unmonitored, unmanaged border hopping that is being encouraged by two political parties that long ago traded common sense for hypocrisy, and the interests of the nation for their own self-serving goals.

I can only speak for what I know… I know that I pay a lot for health insurance every year… you can go to the hospital at any given time of day or night and see illegals getting the same treatment and I am paying. Something has to stop… I can’t keep paying the insurance prices with all the increases. You might ask how do I know they are illegals, I speak Spanish very well and can hear them talking about it… A few weeks ago there were a group of young men and they were laughing about how US is paying their bills… One asked how without a green card or work visa the other one said it is so very easy in NC… and then they all laughed.. Is this what our country has become a joke ????

NC needs to start passing laws like Arizona! Unemployment is hovering at 9%, yet 5.3% of the work force is made up of illegal invaders. If a candidate does NOT support his/her legal constituents it’s way past time to hand them their pink slips!

A lifetime ago the good people of Wilmington – God bless you all – set out the sterling silver and the good china to send us on the USCGC Mendota off to do battle for all that is good and right in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

We were sworn to support and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic. A few of us had even read Art. iv, § 4: “The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, AND SHALL PROTECT EACH OF THEM AGAINST INVASION; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence.”

After however many months in the brown water of South Vietnam, it was just more of the same when we met the enemy in a different guise after we came home. We could endure that; at least the enemy here was just spitting at us, not shooting at us. Eventually, we more or less forgot about war – one of the darkest times of anyone’s life.

But for men who lost what they didn’t know that they had, it is a grievous thing to see the very ground of the land we love stolen from under our feet; to see our jobs farmed out to China, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Egypt, and Vietnam; to see our peace and prosperity parceled out to foreign not-so-immigrants who had no right to them; to hear Human Resources say those famous last words, “How well do you speak Spanish?”

The unkindest cut of all was to see a hard-working young man, who bought a nice enough house for his young wife and two daughters, and who subsequently lost his job and had to leave home so Uncle could take care of his little family. When his wife couldn’t make the house payments, rather than allow her girls to become homeless with her, she found a foreman of a Hispanic labor crew who could pay her bills, and he moved in to be the man of the house, the head of the wife, and the MacDaddy of her two daughters. I have no idea what happened to her two daughters’ father; I can’t bear to find out. (Camden, S.C., 2007: a true account to the best of my knowledge.)

Please vote to end illegal immigration and the attendant evils that come with this crime against U.S. citizens. The hidden costs are too high a price to pay for cheaper lettuce, well-tended shrubbery, and houses built with staples.

They are buying Social Security cards, these numbers can not be verified by any law enforcement agencies. There are only five immigration agents in new hanover, pender, onslow and brunswick counties. The Social Security only has 4 fraud agents in the state of NC. We again are outnumbered by law breakers. Most drug activity involves hispanics as their numbers increase. They need to be sent back and come back when they want to do the work to be a citizen, not as a non tax paying law breaker. The Air Traffic Controllers were fired because they broke the law, what is the difference? They paid taxes, were Viet-nam and Korean war vets. Following a presidential campaign promise they thought that if elected he would correct their concerns instead he cut them down at the knees. You break the law you pay for it, not get a free ride or does “Land of the free” mean just that a free ride for lawbreakers that are not american citizens.
