Fort Bragg-based soldier killed in Afghanistan

FORT BRAGG, NC (AP) — A soldier from Arizona and based at Fort Bragg has died from small arms fire while on patrol during combat operations in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Sunday that 29-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Ryan J. Savard of Sierra Vista, Ariz., died Saturday in Khanabad District, Afghanistan. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg.

Savard was originally from Jefferson, N.H. He graduated in 2001 from Buena High School in Sierra Vista.

The governors of both Arizona and New Hampshire ordered that flags be flown at half-staff Sunday in honor of Savard.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) – The Department of Defense says a soldier from the 82nd Airborne Division has died in Afghanistan.

Military officials say 26-year-old Spc. Krystal M. Fitts of Houston, Texas, died July 17 in Kandahar. Of injuries suffered from indirect fire.

Fitts was was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) – The Department of Defense says a soldier based at Fort Bragg has died in Afghanistan.

Military officials said Monday that 20-year-old Pfc. Christian R. Sannicolas of Anaheim, Calif., died April 28 in Kandahar province of injuries received when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device.

Sannicolas was assigned to 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
