WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As the race to the polls continues, a couple of candidates for governor came to Wilmington today to talk with voters.

Democrats Bob Etheridge and Bill Faison made stops in the Port City to campaign.

“It’s a great day for democracy,” early voter Tom Eagar said. “This is good stuff.”

With early voting underway and Election Day a week away, candidates for governor are making their rounds throughout the state to campaign.

Faison dropped by Cape Fear Community College in downtown Wilmington to speak with students.

“Of the folks who are getting out of college, roughly half come out with a debt of between $26,000 and $28,000,” the current state representative from Orange County said.

One student he spoke with appreciated Faison taking time to visit CFCC.

“This is a community college, which gets overlooked all the time, but yet here he is and he’s got my issues at heart so he’s got my vote,” CFCC student Elizabeth Hinton said.

Etheridge, a former member of Congress, also stopped by the Port City. He went to the New Hanover County Government Center to talk to early voters.

“Was down here the other day and was in Brunswick County, Carteret County,” Etheridge said. “All of them talk about the same thing along the coast: our environmental issues, educational issues, job opportunities, the whole future.”

Voters we spoke with say they are impressed with the voter turnout and hope everyone takes advantage of the opportunity.

“Today, they had over 300, so I think that’s a pretty good turnout, and certainly everyone needs to get out and vote,” Eagar said.

Early One-Stop Voting ends Saturday. Election Day is May 8. Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. To 7:30 p.m.

If you think our economy is bad now, just get a crazy and pompous spendthrift like Etheridge in there. He did a poor job representing us locally and will put the finishing blows to our economy.
He is NOT the man for any government job…just listen to his we and they ads and how he divides us. He ought to be ashamed of himself – remember the infamous Washington video where he manhandled a young boy while apparently two sheets to the wind?
