PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Last week there was free dental care in Wilmington. This week it’s free eye screenings in Pender County.

The 21st Century Vision Van provided free eye screenings in Hampstead today to anyone who needed it. The Lions Club of Hampstead, which hosted today’s event, says this opportunity is very important to the community, because Medicaid no longer covers vision.

The van has equipment for field vision testing and ways to check eye pressure. Eye doctors were also there to look for any cases of eye disease.

“People have a tendency to put off their eyes unless there is a serious, serious problem, but the real thing here is we can detect problems early, and it’s preventative measures can help somebody’s eyesight,” the Lions Club’s Bob Jerabek said.

The Vision Van travels all across the state providing services to those in need.

The Lions Club of Burgaw will host the van tomorrow.
