WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — North 3rd Street, at the Red Cross Street intersection, will be closed Friday and Monday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. while a new sewer line is installed underneath the road.
Southbound traffic will detour to 2nd Street and northbound traffic will detour to 4th Street for a two-block section between Campbell and Walnut streets.
The road will be open this weekend.
The closure is part of the North 3rd Street improvement project that includes the replacement of aging water and sewer lines, the placement of power and other utilities underground, and new street paving, sidewalks and traffic signals.
The affected area stretches from Market Street north to Davis Street. Work is expected to be complete in October, 2012.
