WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It was business as usual today at the New Hanover County Government Center: campaigning, early voting and geese?

That’s right. A pair of geese have laid four eggs and nestled into their new home in a flower bed in front of the Government Center.

Employees say they’re not sure where the geese came from or why they decided to stop where they did, but folks seem to like them. Someone even put up a sign for them and left some corn and water.

“Everybody that comes here stops to look,” New Hanover Co. Community Relations Coordinator Mark Boyer said. “If you go to the retention pond out back, there’s probably a dozen more, and they are all starting to hatch. They are crossing roads and holding up traffic over there, too, but this one, this is the first time we’ve actually seen them set up in front of the building in such an open area.”

Boyer said he expects the goslings to hatch soon. He said the mom, Hanna, is very protective, and the dad, Harry, can also be a little aggressive.

They are probably staying close to humans to avoid the coyotes that are all over the place lately .

What a wonderful, uplifting story, especially during these challenging times.
It’s great they found a safe place to nest and have brought joy to those at the Center area.
Will look forward to a follow-up with a picture of Harry and Hanna’s “family.”

    Thanks for the “good-news” clip.
