Jones wins NC Republican primary for 3rd District

RALEIGH, NC (AP) - US Rep. Walter Jones has won the Republican nomination for North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District, turning back a challenge from Frank Palombo.

Unofficial results on Tuesday show Jones will represent Republicans in the district covering far eastern North Carolina.

Jones is a former lighting company president from Pitt County who serves on the Armed Services and Financial Services committees.

Palombo served as chief of police in New Bern from 1997 to 2010.

Jones will face Democrat Erik Anderson in the November election.
