Troxler takes GOP bid for NC agriculture head

READ MORE:

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- North Carolina Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler is taking the Republican Party banner into November's election after winning his primary contest.

Troxler beat attorney and accountant Bill McManus of Davidson on Tuesday for the GOP nomination.

Guilford County farmer Troxler has held the job since 2005. McManus said he was qualified for the job through ownership of family restaurants and worked for a produce packaging company.

The Democratic nomination for the job will go to either Chatham County cattle farmer and former deputy sheriff Scott Bryant or Yadkin County poultry grower and retired USDA Farm Service Agency official Walter Smith.
