Wilmington, NC (WWAY) – WWAY’s Wednesday night sports segment featured the end of the road for UNCW softball coach Kelly Van Houten. UNCW will not renew Van Houten’s contract after four years of leading the dismal program. Also in UNCW news, women’s golf coach Cindy Ho was named CAA Coach-of-the-Year for the second straight season. We also checked out first round playoff action for some of the area high school girls soccer teams. It was a rainy night throughout most of the Cape Fear region, which made for some sloppy play on the pitch. Hoggard hosted East Wake, while Richlands made the trip to North Brunswick and East Bladen welcomed East Duplin. On top of that, we featured the Cape Fear rugby team as they hosted the Royal Logistics Core from England.
