CHAPEL HILL, NC (UNC sports release) – The University of North Carolina aquatics program, under the direction of head coach Rich DeSelm, boasts 42 qualifiers, 21 men and 21 women, at the present time for U.S. and international Olympic Trials qualification meets in the next two months. This total includes both current and past swimmers and divers as well as a cadre of incoming freshman swimmers. It also includes several Tar Heels who will be at Olympic Trials meets in other nation.
The 2012 USA Swimming Olympic Trials will be held at Omaha, Neb., from June 25-July 2 of this year. The 2012 U.S. Olympic Diving Trials will be conducted June 17-24 at Federal Way, Wash. David MacDonald, UNC Class of 2012, has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials.

Among the Tar Heels who have qualified for or already competed in Olympic Trials on foreign soil will be incoming freshman Lauren Earp, Matt Kwatyra and and Annie Harrison of Canada, rising senior Stephanie Eisenring for Switzerland and 2012 alumnus Victor Leclere for France.
The Canadian Trials were recently completed. Earp was one of the most versatile of all of UNC’s competitors as she plans to swim the 50, 100, 200 and 400 meter freestyles and the 100 meter breaststroke. Harrison competed in the backstroke and IM events while Kwatyra competed in backstroke and IM as well.
Eisenring will be competing for the Swiss in the 400-meter free while Leclere is a butterflier seeking a spot on the French team.
The 2012 London Olympic Games are slated for July 27-August 12, 2012. Swimming competition run from Saturday, July 28-Saturday, August 4.
