WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Commissioners and emergency responders say a nine-year-old girl is a hero. Ella Flewwellin saved her mom’s life by calling 911 when she had a seizure.
“My mom had a seizure, and I was so worried,” Flewwellin said. “I didn’t know what to do at first, and then I ran for the phone and called 911.”
“She got everybody there that needed to be there,” Ella’s mom Christina Crouch said. “She got the dog outta the house. She did all the directions that she needed to do.”
Friday, New Hanover County Emergency Management Director Warren Lee and County Commission Chair Ted Davis presented Ella Flewwellin with an award for her quick thinking. They point to her as an example for all children.
But with her 911 Hero Award in hand, this nine-year-old says her classmates are actually the ones she learned from.
“It feels great to have all my friends to encourage me to do all this stuff and teach me and help me,” she said.
Flewwellin is a student at St. Mary Catholic School. The whole school gathered to celebrate her bravery after this morning.
