WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — “Opa!” is an exclamation of excitement and celebration; lots of which are going on this weekend at the 20th annual Greek Festival.

Each year, thousands of people show up to soak in the food and fun. The festival is put on by Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, and proceeds go back to the church and other local charities. Visitors enjoy authentic food, music, dancing and shopping. Organizers say there’s just something special about the Greek culture.

“The music and our cultural dances, that’s the big thing. And our food,” festival co-chair Nick Saffo said. “Our food is wonderful here. We’ve got all the different dishes, Greek chickens, Moussaka, Pastitsio. We’ve got samplers; we’ve got pastries. That’s the big thing, our food.”

For folks who can’t stick around and enjoy the festival, they can drive through and still get a taste of the culture. The drive through is a new addition to the Festival.

You can catch all the fun at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
