WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Unemployment rates fell in 93 of North Carolina’s 100 counties in April, including all five in our area, according to the North Carolina Department of Commerce – Labor and Economic Analysis Division.
As a whole, the Wilmington metro area say a 0.7-point drop from March to 9.2 percent in April. That’s slightly higher than the state’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 9.1 percent. Only New Hanover County was below the state rate at 8.5 percent for April.
Brunswick County saw the biggest improvement from March, as the county’s rate dropped 1.2 points to 9.7 percent. Columbus County still has the area’s highest unemployment rate at 12.1 percent.
