FORT FISHER, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — What: Fort Fisher Hermit Festival

When: Noon, Sunday, June 3, 2012

Where: N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher, 900 Loggerhead Road, Kure Beach, NC 28449

Cost: Free with Aquarium admission; $8, adults ages 13-61; $7, 62 and older; $6, ages 3-12; free, children under 2.

The N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher and Common Sense Films hosts the festival to celebrate local legend, Robert E. Harrill, and commemorate his mysterious death four decades ago. Festival events include a noon screening of the documentary, “The Fort Fisher Hermit: The Life and Death of Robert E. Harrill.” The filmmakers lead a question-and-answer session following the screening. In addition, Aquarium educators will guide a walk through the salt marsh to the bunker where Harrill lived for 17 years. (Anyone planning to go on the hike should wear closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellant.)
