BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — As sheriff’s deputies in Bladen County go to a colleague’s funeral tomorrow, sheriff’s offices from surrounding counties will lend a helping hand.

Brunswick, Columbus, Pender, Robeson and Cumberland counties will each send two officers to patrol Bladen County during Dewayne Hester’s funeral. Officers will respond to calls and other duties until the funeral is over.

Hester died Friday night when he lost control of his cruiser responding to a call and hit a tree. The 39-year-old left behind a wife and two children.

A visitation for Hester is tonight from 6-9 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Family Life Center in Bladenboro. His funeral is tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the same location.
