Livengood named Laney head baseball coach

WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) -- Laney athletics director announced on Thursday that Aaron Livengood has been promoted to head baseball coach at Laney High School. Livengood replaces Vern Barker. The veteran coach recently announced his retirement after 38 seasons of coaching high school baseball. Most of Barker's seasons were spent in Virginia, but Barker and Livengood did guide Laney to the 4-A state title in 2010.

Livengood is a graduate of UNC Wilmington. He's been an assistant coach at Laney for the last nine seasons. "I'm looking to continue what we've been doing, Livengood said on Thursday. "Pitching and defense have always been our strong suit. We have 15 seniors returning. 12 of those have been with us since they've been sophomores. We have a really good opportunity at being really good next year. I'll bring hard work and intensity to Laney. I'm really excited about the opportunity."
