WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the constitutionality of health care reform law has triggered plenty of opinions here in Wilmington. Democrats view it as a victory, while Republicans don’t quite see it that way.

“I think that this now sends a clear message to people who disagree with the health care law that there’s only one way to get rid of it, and that’s through an electoral change in November,” said Dallas Woodhouse, with the conservative group Americans for Prosperity.

It’s a decision that impacts not only health care but the presidential election in November.

Democrats say it should be less about politics and more about the American people. They say the law ensures that more people will be able to afford health insurance, more people will have coverage, and there will be less abuse from insurance companies.

“This is a monumental decision,” Democratic Party Congressional District Chair Jim Morgan said. “This is a decision that people will look back at in the history books and recognize it as one of the more important victories for health care in this country.”

On the other hand, conservatives say to embrace this ruling President Obama must admit it is a massive tax increase on the American people.

“It’s a loss for the country,” Woodhouse said. “It is a massive extension of federal power, something that the framers would have rolled over in their grave on. It does change the election some.”

Both sides can agree the decision changes the landscape of health care for now.

How can anyone think it is ok for people to allow others to pay insurance and pick up the tab for them? Of course we should all have health insurance. If people don’t want to pay for it up front like responsible citizens let them pay extra taxes instead of making those of us who pay for insurance pay for them.
