WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Downed trees, power lines, and small hail struck the area Sunday night as severe thunderstorms rolled through North Carolina. The system was fueled by intense heat and humidity across the region as temperatures again topped 100 degrees.

Locally, thousands of people were without power during the storms. Farther north in the state, more than 40 people were injured.
