OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The US Coast Guard is featuring an officer stationed at Oak Island as the “Shipmate of the Week” in its official blog.

The story says Petty Officer 2nd Class Joshua Coker is a skilled engineer, and does whatever it takes to make sure his unit is prepared for anything. Last year he received the Fireman 1st Class Paul Clark Boat Forces Engineering Award, which recognizes exemplary boat forces engineers.

Coker is credited with going above and beyond expectations, including boarding a sinking fishing boat and making temporary repairs that saved the crew and the boat.
