SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — A fire in Shallotte Thursday night left destroyed a home. The home, at the 1000 block of Hale Swamp Road, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 10 p.m.

The owner of the single-wide trailer, Joseph Earl Hill, was not home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

There is no word yet on how the fire began, but an investigation is underway.

The victim’s cousin, Robert Hill, was taken into custody on the scene by Brunswick County Sheriff’s Deputies. Investigators say he was not arrested in connection with the fire. The Brunswick County Jail’s website show Hill was booked on charges of breaking and entering and a child support issue.
