Spivey takes over baseball program at South Columbus


TABOR CITY,NC (WWAY) -- South Columbus High School has a new head baseball coach. Former South Columbus Stallion T.J. Spivey signed a contract on Monday to become the head coach at the school where he graduated. Spivey becomes the third head coach in the history of South Columbus. The Columbus County native replaces Willie Gore.

Spivey is an East Carolina graduate. He didn't play college baseball at ECU, but he did play college baseball at Appalachian State.

Other accolades:

North Myrtle Beach High School: defensive coordinator football and track (2011-2012)

West Brunswick High School: assistant football, basketball and baseball (2009-2011)

In 2004 Spivey was named the high school baseball player of the year for Columbus County.

In 2007 Spivey coached Columbus County to the 2007 Dixie Majors World Series.
