RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Dan Forest has defeated fellow Raleigh resident Tony Gurley for the right to run for North Carolina lieutenant governor in November.
Forest won the Republican nomination Tuesday as voters participated in runoff elections for five Council of State and several legislative races.
Unofficial results show Forest with a 2-to-1 advantage over Gurley with three-quarters of the precincts reporting. Forest will take on Democratic nominee Linda Coleman in November.
Partial results have Mike Causey leading in the GOP race for insurance commissioner, Ed Goodwin leading in the Republican race for secretary of state and John Tedesco ahead in the GOP nomination for school superintendent. John Brooks had a narrow lead over Marlowe Foster for the Democratic nomination for labor commissioner.
Unofficial results have state Sen. Chris Carney losing his runoff.
