LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Leland may soon be sharing more with its neighboring towns than just borders.

Leland Town Council passed an agreement Thursday night to extend services to Belville, Navassa and Sandy Creek.

They agreed to offer both animal control and building inspection services to the three Brunswick County towns if they choose to accept.

Town manager David Hollis says the towns requested help from Leland for the services. He says Leland’s animal control department is already helping out residents in Belville, but not the other two towns.

A fee agreement was also discussed for both services. Animal control will charge the towns’ residents $50 per animal pick-up and $25 if no animal is at the house. Hollis says for building inspections, Leland is proposing to split the fees on a 50/50 basis. Hollis says Belville commissioners will discuss the agreement during their upcoming Monday meeting.
