Man drowns along Ocracoke Island

OCRACOKE, NC (AP) -- A spokeswoman for Hyde County says a man has drowned along Ocracoke Island.

County spokesman Jamie Carter says emergency officials got the call about 5 p.m. Friday. She says the man drowned on the north end of the island, which is part of North Carolina's Outer Banks.

Several emergency providers responded, including EMS, the sheriff's office, the National Park Service and the Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department.

No other details were immediately available.
