WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A piece of Civil War history at the Cape Fear Museum is getting a new lease on life.

Museum staff today unveiled the uniform of Gen. William Henry Chase Whiting. He was the Confederate commander of the Lower Cape Fear District during the Civil War.

His uniform, which has been part of the museum’s collection since it was founded in the late 1800s is one of three artifacts conserved by the museum with money from a grant, donations, and county funding.

Visitors will be able to see the artifacts on display starting October 5.
