LUMBERTON, NC (AP) — A funeral will be held for the Lumberton police officer who was shot and killed when he tried to serve a warrant on a man.

The funeral for Master Police Officer Jeremiah Montgomery Goodson Jr. will be held Tuesday at Lumberton High School. He will be buried at Gardens of Faith Cemetery.

The 33-year-old Goodson was off-duty when he shot and killed July 17 while trying to serve a warrant on 27-year-old Marques Brown of Whiteville.

Brown is charged with first-degree murder.

Goodson is survived by his wife Lametria, who is due to have the couple’s second child. A memorial fund has been established for his family at State Employees Credit Union.

Goodson had been employed with the Lumberton Police Department since June 2006.
