JACKSONVILLE, NC (AP) — Someone bought a Powerball ticket in North Carolina worth $1 million but hasn’t yet claimed their winnings.

The N.C. Education Lottery wants that person to know the time to collect is running out.

Lottery officials say the ticket was purchased at a WilcoHess in Jacksonville. The winner matched all five white balls in the Feb. 4 drawing, but the ticket holder has until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2 to claim their winnings at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.

To bring attention to the deadline, the lottery placed a countdown clock in the store’s window on Thursday.

Draw game tickets expire when they go unclaimed for 180 days after a drawing. By law, half of the unclaimed money goes toward prizes awarded to future winners. The other half would benefit education.
