WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man shot by a store clerk during a robbery attempt last year has pleaded guilty to federal charges.

Joseph Ryan Anderson admitted to robbery of a business engaged in interstate commerce and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

In November, Anderson tried to rob the Wrightsville Country Store in Wilmington with a semi-automatic handgun. Instead, the store clerk, Mark Headstrong, pulled out a gun of his own and shot Anderson in the leg and hand when Anderson refused to put down his gun.

Anderson faces up to 20 years in prison for robbery and up to life in prison on the gun charge.

It clearly stands to all logic and reason that New Hanover County’s residents would be best served by directing the 37 Million dollars in which the current City Council members want to use to waste tax payers dollars again to build a non income producing base ball park — and now with the recent Felony. conviction of: Joseph Ryan Anderson and many more like him to soon follow — a New DOC Prison Complex would serve best to protect our citizens and tourists from ‘creatures’ like Ryan and others. We need a New Prison Complex and not some silly base ball park.
