WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — We told you yesterday about Boiling Spring Lakes firing its police chief. Today, we uncovered a lawsuit filed by Mayor Richard White.

White filed the suit for almost $30,000 against a Wilmington woman back in March. Now the mayor is waiting to find out if he’ll get his money back.

In the lawsuit, White says a woman he met while teaching a shooting class sought him out for help after the course was done.

We’re going to protect her identity for now, because White says she said her husband assaulted their son and she needed White’s help to handle the situation.

The suit says later, the woman asked for financial help as well to pay for a hotel stay and legal fees for her and her son totaling more than $6,500.

For collateral White says the woman let him keep some belongings at his home, including $35,000 worth of jewelry.

Afterwards, the suits says white gave her a credit card in her name with a $20,000 spending limit. White says the woman maxed out the cards and then she wanted the jewelry back.

According to a response from the woman, after a SBI investigation, White returned the jewelry to the woman to avoid being arrested. The response also says the woman paid white back for the initial loans in cash but didn’t get a receipt.

We called white. He said he did not want to talk about the lawsuit, and said he just wanted his money back.

The woman’s lawyer says White is just trying to get money and that the case is still in the discovery stage.

There’s an old saying that I heard a judge repeat one day when a case involving an older man throwing money at a womam to…shall we say, ‘help her out’. The judge said, “There’s no fool like an old fool”.

I’m starting tho think that someone from outside of NC should start looking into everything that’s going on around here! Let’s not just focus on BSL, let’s look into the sewer fiasco on Oak Island, the new Village Rd trafic pattern in Leland, the push for the Skyway Bridge. I’m sure there are many, many more things that should be brought into the light.

I don’t know whether Mayor White is justified in his lawsuit, but the lady who writes this blog seems intent on defaming him, DA Jon David, and Judge White. Evidently, the Blog’s author was found guilty of some offense by Judge Warren and she is on a vendetta against the Judge, the DA and the mayor. So if you look at this Blog as I did, be prepared to read totally unsubstantiated and disgusting innuendos. WWAY deserves credit for uncovering this lawsuit and I hope to someday learn the full story. The residents of BSL deserve the truth. But you won’t get it from reading a poorly written Blog by a vindictive author.

Did any of you people ever stop to think that maybe withholding her name is for her protection? I mean the suit does say that he assaulted her son…who says the husband wouldn’t assault or even kill her… Would you want that blood on your hands just to satisfy your selfish nosiness? Think about it…

  • Guest20021 says:

An SBI Investigation resulted in Mayor White returning the jewelry or being arrested???. Uh, people that speaks volumes… Because they don’t mess around in their investigations. Of course this was all covered up because he had the BSL Police Dept white out his name on the police report. A young lady tried to bring all this out at his last re-election. Think it’s time to get some real facts on this Mayor WWAY…

I don’t exactly know how much of my blog you have read “Guest” but I don’t —nor would I ever start to write anything which doesn’t or won’t have the proof attached to it in the end. My blog is all true—because if it wasn’t—and if these individuals weren’t aware that I most definitely had the proof to back it up—they would have had it taken down a long time ago!

Sit back and watch. I think you’re gonna be surprised with the outcome of my “poorly written blog” and the results of what one (truthful) voice can accomplish in the small world of Brunswick County where the roots of corruption run as deep as the largest tree’s!

Do I think he is a dork! I sure do. I have nothing to gain, nor does the writer of the blog you will love to read, it is just the truth you should know so you will know you need to think hard when you vote again. Not telling you how to vote…just think hard!!!
Not trying to sway WWAY in any way, but this is a GOOD story!

To “guest user”…..BSL residents will learn the truth from this blog….except the ones who are blind to the truth, like YOU!

  • Truthful One says:

Sir or Madam, there most certainly was an SBI Investigation and that is the ONLY reason Mayor White returned the jewelry…hello…do you think he would have given it back if not made too? He claims it was “collateral”, so are you calling him an idiot by saying he gave it back when he was alledgedly owed $30,000?? There was no arrest because he returned the items…or he would have been charged with Felony Property By Conversion. Those are the FACTS, so YOU get them straight. Also, a portion of that money was paid back, you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. This isn’t the first time he’s done this to a female, it’s just the first time he got beat at his own game…hilarious and long long overdue.

  • facts101 says:

Please check and get your facts right. There was no SBI investigation having to do with this and there certainly was no arrest. Yes the collateral on the loan was returned however it is alleged in the suit by White, and not against White the money has not been paid back. The courts will decide and when they do, there will be a real story to report instead of this one sided, no-story!

Once again the same group that has been defeated at the poles two times are trying to when in the media what they lost in the poles. I guess they are just never going to get over it.

  • ou812 says:

You may have a point even if it plays fast and loose with anything factual. She should get in touch with Bedwetter. You see how far his antics and lies got him. BTW, he could get his friends and their Easter bunny along with the munchkins in their T-shirts to show up in court for her. The circus would look now just like it did then. Too bad good wine can not be made from sour grapes. We all would be rich in this city! You cats just can not get off the blame game no matter how many times you lose. So, if the courts rule in his favor I guess you will want to override the jury and talk about how you are right and they are wrong. Of course you will. Of course the courts could rule against White. The difference between you and reasonable adults is reasonable adults will accept the findings of the court (one way or the other) rather than make up fairy tails.

  • 1101Guest says:

This woman did file a police report against White and what he did by holding her jewelry was a crime. But how does he get charged working for the D.A. ? He thinks he is above the law and has many followers that can’t think on their own. If the lady in this suit looks around she can surely find enough evidence to discredit this low life. Like the lawsuit that was brought against him in the town by a former Officer there. White runs around telling people that the only money paid out was for attorney fees but we all know that’s not true. If she will contact some of the former Officer’s i’am sure they will give her what they can that might help her. This is not the first time he has given money to a female hoping it will help him in his quest for something more than friendship.

  • ou812 says:

You miss the point in your rant. So, is this a story worth airing or not. Let’s see. WWAY did. And as mentioned, only told part of the story and only named on side of the argument. Wonder why no other news outlet in the area picked up on this one? Could it be because the fact is, there is no story here? Two people have a dispute. A suit is filed. They will either settle or go to court in which case a resolution will be dictated to both parties. Unless you and/or I are on the jury, we like all the other loud mouths in here will have no say at all. The only side I am taking here is the side of an expectation of responsible journalism. And as earlier stated, there has been none of that in this story. It is all pretty damn sad when you step back and look at it.

  • Guest000000 says:

JohnQ, you really believe what you just posted? This was a simple case of somone helping a person in need who they just met? I have no doubt that the lady spent $30,000 of Mr. White’s money, but I doubt he represented it as a loan or she believed it was a loan. Had our recently deposed Police Chief Ballree, who deserves no defending and is receiving none here, was embroiled in this same situation you would be hollering for his head on a platter. White is as crooked as the day is long of this I have no doubt, the only question is whether that crookedness is reserved only for his personal life, or if it spilled into his jobs as Chief of Police or Mayor. Maybe the SBI needs another “anonymous” tip. Should you call, or should I?

  • Baxter Riley says:

Jack Diddley likes to eat at Fishy Fishy in Southport. Jack Diddley is behind all of this and Jack Diddley will tell the truth. Jack Diddley goes to Wal Mart with Mark Moats and buys frozen dinners. Jack Diddley will be at the Dollar general parking lot smoking ciggarettes in the morning in his pickup truck with a wood bed and he will answer all the questions. Vote for Jack Diddley ! Jack Diddley For Change !!

  • Guest000000 says:

Sounds like he got caught in an affair, either by his signifigant other or her’s and this is his attempt to cover his behind. Maybe the SBI can come in and investigate whether town or police funds (back when he was BSL police chief) were used. Giving someone a credit card with a $20,000 limit? Really? File a lawsuit and think no one would find out? You’re just as creepy as Ballree and twice as crooked. You were LUCKY to get two terms as mayor, you won’t get a third.

  • Ken says:

Dangggggggggggg. Ya know it’s bad when they not even married and having this argument over money. After going through all of this, they would have much to look forward to if they did marry LOL.

  • Guest1101 says:

This is a sick man. If only his neighbor that lived beside knew what he was up to when he lived there. And the one that lived a few blocks away. Just look at his picture what decent woman would have anything to do with him?

  • WTF? says:

Now this is some of the most one sided sorry excuse for a news report I have ever seen. I go along with you picking up on a law suit between the mayor and an individual. But you lay out all these allegations against the mayor and yet you PROTECT THE NAME OF THE PERSON BEING SUED!!! Every day stories are in the news over all kinds of lawsuits and they always give all parties not just one. Example, the Barrisses vs. Oak Island, Jerry Walters vs. Oak Island, just to name two right here in BSL’s back yard. To televise this information and withhold other information is prejudicial as hell and it is a smite to anything that could be called fair and professional journalism. Come on WWAY, if your going to run with this story, run with it all and not just part. You should be soundly ashamed! It is my hope another news source will pick this up and give all of it out and not a one sided, slanted and incomplete report!

  • JohnQBSL says:

WTF is correct, it’s public record why would you not fairly report both parties now I know why I do not watch your program on a regular basis. Journalism has completely gone down the tubes. What has happened to Who, what, why, when, and how. I could do a better job reporting a story, you at least would know all the pertaninent facts. Common sense here, I just don’t get the slant where you are coming from. The man loaned a woman money she failed to pay him back, she is the thief. This is a very expensive lesson to learn. She should be completely ashamed of herself. Trying to help a fellow human being in time of crisis is commendable, this is why people turn their backs on fellow humans when they are down and out. She is dispicable. Pay the man back theif!

  • Guest bad says:

THIS IS SO-O-O FUNNY!!!! The sad part is, White will probably get away with it as he has gotten away with sooooo many things!!!!!! I hope the lady wins and sues him for taking her through the dirt!!!! White will say and do anything to cover his butt!!!! There was a comment made about Emmett running out of stories and time…..tic toc tic toc. Do you realize how long ago this happened to White? And he is just now trying to get money? There is something about this that doesn’t jell. Will he, too, shake hands with KARMA?

  • Justin America says:

Some woman gave me $35,000 in jewels to hold just the other day. Seems perfectly normal. I’m straight on some curves, high on some hills. Some good looking mama might get me but the law never will…. yeeeeee haaaaa. Now where’s that damn receipt. Hope I didn’t smoke that too.

  • Missy says:

Something doesn’t smell right about this. I think there’s much more to this story than what Mr White is telling.

Who gives a relative stranger that kind of money out of the goodness of their heart?

  • Guest what's next says:

    You are sickening
