WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The NC Department of Transportation says lanes on Market Street/US 17-Business in Wilmington will close beginning next week while contractors perform construction work on a 3.5-mile portion of the highway.

Workers will replace traffic signal detectors and adjust utility fixtures, such as water and sewer castings, while performing milling, repaving and remarking of lanes from the CSX Railroad tracks to just north of the Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway/US 74 in New Hanover County.

The project will require closing one or two of the highway’s four lanes at various times. These lane closures may take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. during the week and at any time, day or night, on weekends. The work is expected to conclude in mid-October, weather permitting.

No marked detours are planned, but motorists are urged to use other routes whenever possible as travel time delays are anticipated during the work period.
