WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- As Isaac barrels down on the Gulf Coast, how will the storm affect your wallet at the gas pump? According to AAA, the storm is expected to drive up prices at the pump. How much exactly? AAA says it's still a little early to tell.

“We don't expect it to be catastrophic, but we do expect that it will increase fuel prices,” says Sarah Hall, Wilmington AAA spokeswoman.

Drivers hope the up-tick doesn't kill their wallets.

“I really hope it doesn't go up, because I don't have much money to go around,” says Wilmington driver Liza Broadhurst.

“If you have to drive, you have to, but I’ll keep the driving to a minimum,” says John Eyster.

Several energy companies have evacuated workers from their oil and gas platforms, cutting off oil production in the Gulf, which accounts for more than 20 percent of our country's supply.

Our area, according to Hall, may be affected more so than other regions. She says that 90 percent of our gas comes from the Gulf.

Another thing she says folks will need to worry about with Isaac is airline ticket prices.

“I do recommend that anyone that is planning any trips or air travel to go ahead and buy their tickets now,” Hall says. “When fuel prices are affected, so are airline tickets.”

Hall says when Katrina hit seven years ago, gas prices went up 60 percent in our area. The good news is she does not expect Isaac to cause prices to increase anywhere close to that.

Reason

They were just waiting for a reason to jack the prices back to where they were.... They can jump 10 cents in day? Without deliveries? But take weeks to months to drop? Someone needs to get their heads out of their behinds, and start doing the job they are paid to do? "Price Gouging?"

One other thing

The missing link that doesnt explain any price raises is that the price of oil has actually BOTTOMED since Fridays high at over 98 dollars it imploded down to 94.50 approximately yesterday and has slowly risen back into $96 range today. So why are prices rising now when oil was HIGHER Friday.. Even the price of oil doesnt justify the gas price rising

Ironic

Such a disparity in prices. Sams, Costco are still 3.63 others running a little higher at 3.71-3.75 even 3.79 but Murphy by Walmart on Sigmon jacked their prices all the way to 3.95 this afternoon. Pure price gouging indeed to say the least.. As for Southport Sorry you guys are getting bent over but if you happen to have business closer to this way you can find prices closer to fair market value

Gas Prices

I cannot believe that we are looking at prices rise again. Back and forth for one reason or another. It makes no sense. I have been driving for 46 years and I have never seen the price of gas fluctuate like it has the past 3-4 years and I cannot believe that our so called President has not done one thing to help the citizens of the United States in this matter. It affects everyone, except the executives that can afford it. Not only does it affect us at the gas pumps, but our heating and cooking bills have rose to an all time high and some people cannot afford to keep making the big shots, BIgger. My husband and I live alone in a 1700 sq. ft., one level, brick home. I am at work all day, Monday thru Friday, every week. Our electric bill this past month was $346.00. That is almost impossible. I know we have had some very hot weather this summer, but come on. Somebody needs to do something about the gouging and regulate it. Please do not contact me for further comment.

I THOUGHT IT WAS AGAINST THE

I THOUGHT IT WAS AGAINST THE LAW TO PRICE GOUGEING. THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF IT. WHERE ARE OUR REPS. NOW? THEY NEED TO PUT A CAP ON PRICES DURING A TIME OF EMERGENCEY. NO WONDER PEOPLE DON'T EVACUATE. THEY CAN'T AFFORD IT, PLUS PAY FOR A PLACE TO STAY, THEN COME BACK HOME AND REBUILD. IN FLORIDA, THEY CLOSE THE TOLL BOOTHS AND PEOPLE GO THRU FOR FREE. THATS COMPASSION. ALSO, WHY SHOULD OUR GAS PRICES GO UP? AND DON'T TELL ME ITS BECAUSE OF REFINERY'S SHUTTING DOWN. THERES PLENTY OF GAS IN STORAGE.LIKE YOU SAID, ITS JUST PURE GREED.

Reason

There is no good reason other than greed for gas prices to rise. The oil companies should be take over by the government. Screw them all!!!!

It's happening at our own hands...

Sure, let government control everything. Your health, retirement, housing, business, energy. I mean afterall, COMMUNISM is what we are all after....right?

Socialist, Liberalist sicken me. I have ancestors that fought and died in battle defending MINE and YOURS FREEDOM....FREEDOM!!!

Vote REPUBLICAN people if you too love your FREEDOM!!!

William Smith
Patriot

Apparently...

Apparently Republicans don't get sarcasm. They also don't get the fact that year after year they are tricked like little sheep into voting for a party that taxes them at a higher rate than large corporations and then uses those tax dollars to fund government subsidies for the very oil companies that are gouging them. Yes, keep voting Republican...BAAAAAAAAA, BAAAAAAA.

Another liberal drinking the

Another liberal drinking the same kool-aid like everyone else that believes that democrats really care about the middle class. I'm not sure when Republicans actually increased the taxes on the middle class? I look at the whole picture and see the the democrats actually tax the middle class with indirect taxes. Indirect meaning taxing us for high fructose drinks, gas, vehicle registration, fattening foods and now my favorite... not having health insurance. You can call it a penalty at the end of the year but it's still a tax. it doesn't matter if you raise taxes for rich because they use the loopholes to avoid paying. For instance under the current tax code George Soros made $3.3 billion in 2010 and paid about 15% in income tax. Why not the 35%? Because as a hedge fund manager he pays 35% on the 2% advisory fee but then pays 15% on the 20% of the annual profits. This is George Soros, the richest hedge fund manager that supports Obama's tax plan. The man that agrees that the top 1% should pay a higher tax. This makes no sense on the surface but under all the bs that is pumped out on a daily basis proves that the rich will only pay what the feel like. The only difference is that the right says they want to keep their money and everyone should work at making their own, while the left says everyone should pay up but themselves. If either side actually cared about the middle class they wouldn't expect us to carry the weight. The rich will get the tax cuts if it's public or hidden under all the crap and the lower class will not have to pay tax.

What they should do is rewrite the tax code to eliminate the biggest scam ever... non profit organizations. There are 1.5 million registered 501(c) non for profit organizations in the US. With that many organizations that are also receiving federal funding and private money, why is there poverty and ghettos in the US? You wonder why every celebrity and rich person out there has a non for profit. When you see them doing charity work they actually bill their non profit for the work. So they can still deduct money that they "would've" made for their own charity.

Last year a hospital made an excess of 4 billion dollars + federal funding+ private donations, paid $0 in taxes. Also note that a large chunk of the money they get is from medicare and medicaid. That is on the lower scale. Another one made 15 billion.

So continue to believe that the democrats care about the middle class. They want to help the so called poor but instead of using their money they want you to cough up the cash for it.
My family came from a 3rd world country with no money, didn't speak English and was still able to succeed. Sorry we did use Gov assistance for approx 8 months. We didn't sit around complaining how the white man is holding us down or oppressing us. We worked 3 jobs while going to school full time. After all that sacrifice and sweat I am pretty well off. You think it's right for me to give up money that I work hard for every single day so some person who has been here for multiple generations can sit around having more kids living off the Gov? Sorry call me a jerk but I think everyone who is able to work should work.

WHY

It has to be JUST BECAUSE...its a MINIMAL storm...used to be you didn't hear this type of sensationalism from big oil when a hurricane came thru the Gulf...NOW..HOLY CRAP...DANGER DANGER THE SKY IS FALLING..RAISE GAS PRICES!

Prices already approaching

Prices already approaching $4 a gallon in Soutport and there is no way this storm has had any direct effect on prices. Boys and girls, can you spell "greed'?
