WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- While we still get to enjoy another three weeks of summer, the Labor Day weekend marks an unofficial turning point here in our beach towns. Local business say they caught a wave of cash this year.
“This has been a phenomenal business year for us beach merchants and our count in general.” Said John Andrews of South Beach “The weather has been wonderful, and no major hurricanes or events that would deter people from coming here and so far so great.” Andrews said.
Caught between the weather and economy, some beach businesses were struggling, but this year the beach is the place to be.
“All the merchants I am speaking to are saying they are having a much better year this year than last year the hotel occupancy rates are up, we are getting more money for our beaches to be renourished and we are extending our hospitality to a lot of new folks .” Andrews told WWAY.
Visitors will miss the beach and shop owners will miss the tourist and their dollars that drive this economy. But you still have this weekend and after that, there is just more beach for us locals to love.
