WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A gathering by the river in downtown Wilmington drew a crowd, it was Phoenix Employment Ministries Labor Day Luminaries. An event to highlight the work at Phoenix to assist those in need with employment services.
New Hanover county commission Vice Chairman Jonathan Barfield addressed the crowd. Hundreds of luminaries lined the Riverwalk to represent those served by the ministry, as well as those who help.
“They are representative of the hundreds of people , homeless people who are not working and who would like to work.” Said Don Skinner, Executive Director of Phoenix. “ People have the wrong idea that they don't want to works and that's not true they would like to work. And the hundreds of people that we anticipate helping in the years to come.” Skinner explained.
Phoenix Employment Ministries has helped more than 500 people find jobs in 10 years of serving our community.

So they find one person one
So they find one person one job once a week with the rate they posted here. Not a lot of help in this dismal recession economy we are in.
Grants
But yet, they are using our (tax) dollars - in the form of grants - to be very well dressed while running the place.
