Topsail Beach, NC (WWAY) — The Topsail Island businesses have had consecutive down years since the 2008 recession but business owners may now have more to smile about than the sunshine.
At Beach Shop and Grill business has been booming with Labor Day weekend being a cherry on top of a banner year.
“I get into work and from start to finish it’s just busy, busy, busy,” said waiter Jake Miller. “We get a lot of good tourists who come through here from all over the United States because nothing replaces good food.”
Quarter Moon Books and Gifts has seen similar success, which has lead to a business expansion.
“We’ve had a great year this year we have added a wine bar and built a deck outside and that’s really drawn a lot of people,” said owner Lori Fisher. “This has been our best year ever. We have been here seventeen years and we’re just really thrilled with the season this year.”
The Topsail Island economy has seen similar growth with new faces coming in faster than the tide. A trend that small business owners hope will carry them through the Carolina winter.
While the summer tourist season unofficially came to an end on Labor Day businesses on Topsail have one more boom to bank on with the fall rush of fisherman to the island.
