CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — Labor unions are planning to hold a parade in Charlotte one day before the start of the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina’s largest city.

Some unions are upset that the Democrats picked Charlotte for the convention because North Carolina has the lowest percentage of unionized workers in the nation. But organizers say the Charlotte Labor Day Parade will celebrate labor.

After the march, the Southern Workers Assembly will hold a meeting to discuss plans on organizing in the South.

The Democratic National Convention is being held from Sept. 4-6. For the first two days, Time Warner Cable Arena in downtown Charlotte will be the main venue.

On the last day, President Barack Obama will make his acceptance speech at the 74,000-seat Bank of America Stadium.
