CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — Gov. Beverly Perdue, Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx and some elementary school children are among the North Carolina voices taking center stage at the start of the Democratic National Convention.
They’re on the list of dozens of podium speakers for Tuesday once the gavel comes down on the convention late in the afternoon inside Time Warner Cable Arena in downtown Charlotte.
Perdue and Foxx are expected to address the delegates in the early evening, while third-graders at W.R. O’Dell Elementary School in Concord will lead the convention hall in the Pledge of Allegiance at the convention’s start.
The festivities will air on cable TV. Broadcast networks are expected to join in the final hour, when first lady Michelle Obama is slated to speak.
