CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- The late night menu at some fast food restaurants are hot spots for the hungry. One man says he left with a not-so-happy meal and now he's offering a reward to find out who served up a beating.
The Carolina Beach Police need your help to track down two men they believe beat up at man in a McDonald's parking lot.
They say 45-year-old Roderick Brooks Savage tried to walk through the drive thru at McDonald's. Patrons have to be in a vehicle to place an order, so he asked two men if he and his friend could ride in the truck bed of their F-250. When Savage's friend got out of the truck to go to the bathroom, detectives say the two men beat savage up then took off. Now, the police are trying to track them down.
"The victim says he can't remember much of what happened that night," says Carolina Beach Police Detective Derek Moore. "He says he thought he only got hit a few times but when he went to the hospital it was obvious it was a serious assault."
Moore says detectives don't know much - and security cameras from the restaurant don't show much - but they do have a few leads.
Savage is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who can help get a positive arrest in the case.
His friends are also taking to social media - posting photos of his injuries to their Facebook pages. Police say the online outreach may be helpful.
"Facebook has really become a good tool for us especially now-a-days with the outreach that Facebook has you can get the word out much quicker," says Moore.
Savage was in surgery this afternoon to repair his broken arm. If you have any information about the case, call the Carolina Beach Police at (910) 458-1246.
